Description
ELECTRIC WATER PUMP
The Davies Craig EWP Electric Water Pump is designed to replace or complement your engine's existing belt driven mechanical water pump.
It has a high flow capacity and has the advantage of running independently of the engine speed.
The pump can be set to run continuously or, using a controller, it can be switched on at a set temperature and can be continued after switching off.
The EWP® electric water pump is easy, do-it-yourself, to install.
It fits most car makes and models equipped with a naturally aspirated or turbocharged engine.
The revolutionary Australian-designed EWP® is made of anti-corrosion, lightweight, heat-resistant, glass-filled nylon or aluminum and has a ceramic seal for long life.
The EWP® significantly improves engine cooling control while giving you extra power and lower fuel consumption.
By eliminating the parasitic power losses of a belt-driven, mechanical water pump, the EWP® can deliver up to 10 kW (13 hp) of extra power and more torque.
Operating temperature range: -40° -130° C
EWP® INSTALLATION OPTIONS
Install an EWP® as an AUXILIARY PUMP
Leave the mechanical water pump in place and install the EWP® in the lower radiator hose.
Remove the thermostat and drill two approx. 3 mm (1/8 “) holes in the thermostat plate to allow for some coolant circulation when the thermostat is closed. Replace the thermostat and make sure the thermostat housing is clean and use a new gasket if necessary.
EWP® INSTALLATION - turn off mechanical water pump
Leave the mechanical water pump in place, install the EWP® in the bottom radiator hose and remove the thermostat from the manufacturer.
You will need to bypass the water pump pulley by installing a belt of the correct length (not included). This method allows for easy installation.
If the pump is running continuously, remove the thermostat and drill two approx. 3 mm (1/8 “) holes in the thermostat plate to allow for some coolant circulation. Reinstall making sure the thermostat housing is clean and use a new gasket if necessary.
In either case, the EWP® pumps past the impeller of the mechanical water pump.
Decoupled mechanical water pump (recommended)
Remove the mechanical water pump and remove the thermostat.
Then remove the impeller from the mechanical pump shaft. Hold the mechanical water pump with the pump pulley as the idler pulley to prevent the drive belt from re-routing.
Block any bypass passages and reinstall the disconnected water pump, making sure all gasket surfaces are clean and the new gaskets are properly installed to prevent leaks.
Install the EWP in the lower radiator hose.
Removed mechanical water pump (ideal)
Remove the mechanical water pump and thermostat from the engine.
Install a Davies Craig EWP® head adapter or cover plate (not included). Make sure gasket surfaces are clean and the correct gasket or sealant is used to prevent leaks.
Install the EWP® in the lower radiator hose. This method requires you to adjust or replace the standard radiator hose.
Install a belt of the correct length (not supplied) to drive the accessories.
In most cases, EWP® is sufficiently supported by the radiator hose. Where mounting is required, the EWP® should be mounted on vibration dampers to protect against vibrations. Mounting bracket is recommended for the EWP115, EWP130 and EWP150.
